MAGETAN The Damjati bridge in the village of Semen in the district of Magetan, eastern Java, has collapsed because it was not able to withstand the high water level in the river. At the time the bridge gave way, people near it could see that water from the swollen river was flowing over the bridge. “There were people looking for wood that got stuck at the bridge,” said village leader Suyatmo. The bridge collapsed over a length of 50 meters. The connection between Magetan and Madiun is currently blocked because there is no other bridge nearby.
