Deadline of Amrozi’s Clemency Request Prolonged
-
The deadline of the Bali bombing case convicts Amrozi, Imam Samudera and Ali Gufron for a request for clemency was prolonged.
This is because the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) delayed sending the copy of the judicial review (PK) of the Supreme Court (MA) to the convicts and their families. “We will deliver it on January 2,” said Deputy Attorney General for General Crime, Abdul Hakim Ritonga, in Jakarta, Friday (28/12).
At first, AGO should have sent the copy to the convicts on December 27, 2007. “As there will be holidays, we are delaying sending it,” said Ritonga.
Ritonga explained that the convicts have 30 days to file a clemency request starting from when the copy is received. When asked about the judicial review, he insisted that extraordinary legal efforts such as judicial review can only be carried out once. “Judicial review is only once,” he said.
The copy of the review conclusion was accepted by Denpasar District Court on December 19. This showed that the death penalty the judges have have decided upon can be carried out soon. However, before that the convicts are still given the right to request other legal efforts, that is the President’s clemency.
