Pertamina needs 70 million dollars per day for imports

JAKARTA, 18 January 2008 - Pertamina is in need of twice as much foreign money because of high oil prices on the international market with prices reaching as high as 100 US dollars per barrel. Earlier today the general manager of PT Pertamina, Ari Hernanto Sumarno, said that Pertamina was in need of foreign money to pay for the imports of oil for the company. Pertamina has to buy oil from outside Indonesia, even if the prices rise. This is caused by the fact that the total production of oil in Indonesia is not sufficient to cover all of it’s needs.

East Timor’s Horta asks countrymen to forgive Soeharto

horta.jpgEast Timor’s president called on people Thursday to forgive former Indonesian president Suharto, who ordered the invasion of his tiny nation in 1975 and then oversaw decades of brutal rule that left up to 200,000 dead.“It is impossible for us to forget the past,” said Jose Ramos-Horta, who shared the 1996 Nobel Peace Prize with fellow countryman Bishop Carlos Belo for leading a nonviolent struggle against the Indonesian occupation.

“But East Timor should forgive him before he dies.”
